Ladies Auxiliary Awards Patriotic Art Prize

Kaitlin Purinton, a 16 year old sophomore at Highland High School in Gilbert has been awarded first prize for her Patriotic Art submitted to VFW Post 9399 Ladies Auxiliary.  This local award is Kaitlin's second year award.  Last year, she also won the Department contest.  This year, there will be no District level judging, so Kaitlin's artwork has been forwarded directly to the State level.  If Kaitlin wins there, her piece will move on to National.

In 1978 the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest was established to recognize and reward high school students for expressing their patriotism visually through their art.  Today three scholarships are given from $10,000- $2,500.  In 2000, the Patriotic Art Escrow Fund was established with the goal of making this a self-sustaining program, a goal which will hopefully be fulfilled this year.
